Travels – Colombia South America

Colombia is a country steeped in paradox. It’s geography, people, political history and cities swirl with beauty and grit, warmth and fear, resolve and tragedy .

Recently my wife Lisa and I went on a 7 day trip to Colombia to experience something “new”. In this short time we only scratched the surface of  this complex country. The pastoral views of the Cocora valley brought tears to my eyes. Biblical is the only word I found to describe it. The politically charged graffitie on the streets of La Candelabria, Bogota’s old city, made a citizan’s revolt seem to be creeping around the corner.

Colombia has lived through decades of violence, destabilization and disruption brought on by gorilla groups such as FARC and M19 as well as Colombia’s infamous narcotrafficking cartels. Yet its people maintain a warmth and pride that rivals any country I’ve seen. It is also Latin America’s longest standing democracy.

Colombia brings to light how much the geography, population and history of a country can be divided by spectacular peaks and ominous valleys.

While I’m glad to be home I feel a small part of “home” lingers elsewhere, in a new understanding of the world. Such as one should feel after any rewarding travel experience.

Thank you Colombia!

LongHouse Reserve Wedding Photos – Amanda & Jason

Amanda and Jason’s beautifully refined and intimate wedding was held at the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, New York. It was an honor to photograph at The LongHouse because they only host a few weddings each year. Amanda and Jason’s vision of the event was executed masterfully by outstanding wedding planner, Jill Gordon, and floral designer Clair Bean knocked it out of the park with the lush summer flowers. The long row of low-level floral centerpieces was a true standout (see pic below) and made it easy for conversation and laughter to flow at this family affair.

Grand Central Station Engagement Photos – Paige & Aaron

Paige and Aaron met in New York City. With a change in jobs they moved to Paige’s native Texas. When they got engaged they decided to fly back to their old stopping grounds/New York City for an engagement session. We started the shoot at Grand Central. Being that it was the day before Thanksgiving the city was buzzing. So much so that our session came to a happy ending when we got caught in the river of people viewing the Macy’s Day parade balloons being blown up. With no chance of beating the crowd, we joined them.

Julie and Matt – The Manor Wedding Photos

Julie and Matt had a classic and elegant wedding at The Manor in West Orange, New Jersey. I was lucky to have my good friend and amazingly talented Scott Cohen as the second photographer. Julie and Matt were a terrific couple to work with, super laid back and relaxed. Julie looked beautiful and had a great time getting ready with her mom and bridesmaids. The photos during the reception captured how much fun they have together.
